Summer sailing! - Whimsy Inspiration post

Good morning blog friends

Aren't I doing well this week!  - my 3rd post in a row - and I'm back tomorrow with a blog hop!

Todays post is my Whimsy stamps inspiration post and I'm using a Digi that I've had since last summer.  Always intending to use but never quite getting it together!!

This is Ahoy by Liastampz at Whimsy Stamps
Available in the Whimsy stamps shop  HERE

I love all things nautical, we even have a beach themed conservatory here in our house, with a lovely collection of shells. I've always picked up shells on the beach, they're from beaches from all over the world and if ever I'm feeling down my shells take me to those lovely places and the days I had there and make me smile - the beach is always my happy place.

I've been a seaside girl all my life - always living on the coast - so close we could always walk to the sea.  I love the sea and really couldn't imagine living somewhere inland.  In the winter I walk our dog on the beach and even on freezing cold rainy days I love to be there, its not all about sunshine, if you're dressed for the cold there's something beautiful about the  crashing waves and wind.  The beach where we walk is in a bay and when the tide is right out we can walk end to end right to the pier and back probably 6 miles or more there and back along the bay and you can walk the whole way on the sand sometimes hopping across the rocks and rock pools.

Glenn on the beach at Whitburn showing the bay through Seaburn down to Roker Pier

Sunrise on the beach

When I got this digi I had the idea that it was a perfect image for a little boys card and real summer scene.  I decided that I would use nautical papers and embellies - but didn't have any! I bought some papermania nautical papers and embellies last summer, then when I had my trip to the My Favourite Things shop in Florida last Christmas one of my things on the list was the seaside charms dies - so I was good to go!

This is what I did....

Image Ahoy from Liastampz at Whimsy Stamps
Coloured with copics and prisma color pencils
Papers and bow - Ahoy there! from paper mania
Nautical Dies - seaside charms from dienamics at MFT
kraft card - from MFT

Lavender and Lace GDT card for Crafty little Fairies

Good morning all

Well where did January go then!! - when Squirrel asked me if I would like to do a GDT spot  as a pink fairy at Crafty Little fairies it was last year - all of a sudden we're one twelfth of the way through the next one  - how did that happen?

I'm really enjoying my little spot with Lilis Little Fairies and making the most of it showing of my gorgeous LOTV stamps - I could keep going for months just with the stamps I've got - and I'm always up for buying more!!

the challenge theme for this week is

Lavender and Lace

I decided to make a floral card for this challenge as it just sounds floral pretty! - and was going to make it a birthday card, but one of my dear friends lost her mother last week so I decided that this was the perfect pretty image for a sympathy card instead

The image I used is the lovely Foxgloves available here

As you can see I kept it fairly simple keeping the image as the main focus of the card, sticking very much to the theme lavender and a touch of lovely lace.   I loved colouring this image - I love florals and don't use them nearly enough - its nice not to colour skin and clothes for a change.  With all those lovely girly stamps over at LOTV I think you could really go to town with a frilly , lacy totally glammed up card for this challenge - but I'm very happy with my fairly simple card, its so much easier  with the other type, I often just don't know where to stop - or sometimes where to start for that matter lol.

Here's what I did

Image -Foxgloves from LOTV
Coloured with copics and prismacolour pencil
card - bazzill basics
papers - Meadowlark from Prima
Sentiment - Anna Griffin
Pearls - Martha Stewart
Lace - WOC
Grey seam binding ribbon - crafty ribbons

We'd love to see some pretty card for this weeks challenge

Challenges I'm entering with this card

Fashionable stamping challenge -Tag along (must have tag and stamping)
the crafters cafe - ribbon and or lace
Crafty sentiments - 1 image, 2 papers. 3 embellies
loves rubber stamps - use lace

A trip down Animal Memory Lane

Hi all

After my post for my Moving along with the Times this last week it set me off thinking about my pets over the years and over on our DT blog we've been sharing photos and stories and I have so enjoyed it - so decided to share here too.  if you're an animal lover you might enjoy my trip down memory lane - if not just switch off now!!!

I went off looking through our boxes of old photos after I persuaded my DH to get them out of the loft.  I didn't find them all -you'll be glad to hear!  -but it kept us all amused this cold rainy weekend and gave me these old and not so old photos to share with you here.....

Me and Kim
Kim - my first dog that I had from about the age of 7 and she lived until she was 15, (I think I was about 10 in this photo) she was from a litter of puppies my Grandma's dog had - my Mam said she knew that we'd end up with one -  and we did!! - We'd had a black and white cat (Cookie) before that who just disappeared one day - the way cats do, I know I've got a couple of photos but  didn't come across them.  While I was young my Dad also used to breed budgies - think that's where I got the animal gene!!

Next came Sunny the dog we got shortly after we got married, she was a border collie cross - more cross than border collie!! We had her for 13 years - she had that awful trip to the vet just weeks after my youngest son was born.

Sunny
We had a break of a couple of years with no dog but we had budgies (Peter and Wendy) and guinea pigs.   We had 3 guinea pigs, who were brothers they were long haired shelties like little yorkshire terriers - I used to have to bath them and cut their hair!
They were called Badger, Cuddles and Tiny.  This picture is of my son Matthew with Badger.  We had them for about 5 or 6 years
Matthew and Badger

It really kicked off  when we got our first Labrador Heidi
She was a lovely gentle dog - if not a bit nuts!!
We had her for almost 14 years
Heidi aged around 2

At the same time we got our brown tabby Persian Toby
- the most beautiful cat of all
(terrible photo I know)
and terrible carpet - it came with the house!!

Toby
he was closely followed by Jack the ginger mog
and the British Shorthairs that I bred and showed
We had a lilac colour point Lucy

Jack and Lucy

Lucy was a lovely cat but suffered from progressive retinal atrophy and went blind before she was 3
She couldn't cope in a multi cat house so she went to live with a  friend of mine and lived happily until just a couple of years ago.  I never bred from her and was so glad because the condition was hereditary - but I would have loved colourpoint kittens.

Toby and Lucy

Lucy as a kitten
Matthew with Jack - out of my 3 kids he is the one who loved the animals most
We bred mainly British silver tipped and my breeding queen was  Rosie

Rosie
She was mum to my lovely Barney and his sister Annie
who we also kept

Barney,Annie and their brother Casper aged around 8 weeks

We also had a British blue Tilly and had a couple of litters of British blues from which we had
Chandler our gorgeous boy - I couldn't find most of my photos - so he's not pictured here I'm sad to say he was a lovely chunky boy.

Tilly
I only ever had 2 litters of kittens in a year and even that was only once.  We had such fun when the kids were little and made some lovely friends and had quite a lot of success in the cat shows. - many people came back and bought another kitten - they were very well brought up kittens with lovely natures.  - but so hard work and cost a fortune - there was never a profit made out of breeding cats in our house!!
Our other British Shorthair male Bailey who was the youngest of the cats became Grand champion - he was an enormous cat over 16 pounds in his prime
Bailley

After our Labrador Heidi died we got Glenn who is now 4
here he is just a few weeks ago in his Christmas bandana

So now we're down to a one pet household - very quiet compared to our busy animal years - but its right for us now, we like to go on holiday too much - and thats the choice I've had to make

I've enjoyed my trip down animal memory lane!  - seeing all my beautiful boys and girls again was a lovely way to spend an afternoon -most of these photographs are pre digital so the quality is not that good - don't we just take technology for granted these days!!

Congratulations if you made it this far lol

Cats cats cats......

Good morning blog friends

Well by the title of my post you might just have guessed the theme of this weeks challenge at
Moving along with the Times

of lovely janice has chosen the theme

Cats

nothing ambiguous, not in the least bit complicated
pure and simple - cats!!

If you call on me regularly you'll know I'm a huge lover of animals - they're there in my side bar all the time.  I used to breed pedigree cats (British shorthairs) when my kids were little and we've always had an assortment of animals in the house - we always had every kid in the neighbourhood at our house because we had cats -complete with litters of kittens, dogs, guinea pigs, budgies.... lol a real menagerie.  But I very recently lost my beloved last cat Barney at the grand old age of 18, it makes me so sad not to have cats but we have too many holidays these days and its not fair or easy on the cats particularly.  We still have our lovely labrador Glenn but he's a very social animal and enjoys when someone else looks after him when we aren't here.

Anyway on with my card

I went hunting around to see what sort of catty images I had and came across this cutie from Meljens
Called Kitty Cat love its available here

A quite bizarre thing happened as I was looking for a link for this digi just now - I found the original post from the artist showing her two cats that she based this stamp on - I hope she doesn't mind me publishing this picture - but I hadn't seen it when I coloured these kittys - and here they are..

 rex and bolita

Now is that spooky or what! - I could have coloured these cats any combination of colours - yet that was what came to my mind - people say I'm a bit spooky at times cos I often do these things....!!

Janice is offering a cool kitty stamp for you cat loving people to win
it's called Kitty Tiles from New Hampton Art Stamps - its gorgeous
wish I could enter for the chance to win it!!

Anyhooos - you can see the cats I had most recently on my side bar
I had told Janice I would post some others of my cats on here - but when I looked I didn't have any on my computer at all (well I had others of these same cats but not my other cats!!)  I only have my prints and they are where everyone keeps their old photos - in a box in the loft!!  I'll get them out sometime and post some of my other lovely cats.  and cute kitty litters I had!  Oh I do so miss my cats - but its lovely to remember them here today.

When I made this card I had a real embellie crisis -you have no idea how many embellies were put on this card - then taken back off again - I just decided to let the cats do the talking and leave it at that

Here's what I did...
Image - kitty cat love from meljens designs
Coloured with - copics and prismacolor pencils
Papers - sunshine by MME
Dark red card and pearls from my stash
Ribbon - vintage seam binding in toffe from crafty ribbons

It's All about the words -Challenge #200 at Fab'n'Funky Challenges

Good morning all

I'd like to say a big welcome to my new followers this week
and sorry there hasn't been much going on here to follow!!

What a busy old week this one turned out to be!
I'm so sorry I haven't been here (or anywhere else) this week
I'll be doing a catch up with you all later - see you soon

We've had a lovely time over on the Fab'n'Funky DT blog
meeting and greeting our lovely new DT ladies
But it doesn't half take some organising!!
I've been beavering away all week setting up things on the blog, emailing, making cards...

But now I'm all ready for this weeks challenge over at

set by our lovely Beccy

She chose the theme

All about the words

and here's how I interpreted it

The cute image is Beary Special Gift from Stampart design by Kathryne
available here
I decided to use a fairly large sentiment so that the focus is on both the image and the sentiment
I kept the embellies down to a minimum
 - well just the odd big bow, button, pearls, twine - I started off imagining CAS
It didn't turn out that way!!  - I hardly ever make a card without a ribbon or a bow (I need to just to keep using up my huge ribbon stash- so why change the habits of a life time!! - I decided to enter the DT call over at Crafty Ribbons - it seems like the ideal DT for a ribbon diva like me lol  -

We have two great sponsors at Fab'n'Funky this week

Who are offering a prize of 5 digis to the randomly chosen winner

and

Also offering a prize of 5 digis to our special first prize winner
and the chance of a GDT spot with us over at Fab'n'Funky Challenges

So what are you waiting for - you are such a wordy lot!  I've seen your blogs!!
- lets see if you can put it on a card.

GDT card for Crafty little fairies In the Kitchen Challenge

Good morning all

I'm back with my second GDT card for Crafty little fairies, this time the theme is

In the kitchen

this means we want anything kitchen or food themed
- be as creative as you like !

I used this cute little stamp from Lili of the Valley
called Top Chef available HERE

I'm looking forward to the summer - and our own outdoor kitchen!
When the weather is good we BBQ all the time - just like this cute little bear
Last year was great - we had such a good summer and we even BBQ'd breakfast at weekends!
- oh I do hope we have a good summer again, evenings in the garden, lovely salads, blackberry Pimms.........

I'm still on my rubber stamps thing and quite enjoying the challenge - it doesn't mean I've abandoned my digis -just making sure I use my lovely rubber stamps as well!  I also did a bit of experimentation on this image by colouring the sky - not something I've done so completely before, its far from perfect but I quite like the effect, it adds colour, I think I'll have to practice some more but you've got to start somewhere,
for a change I think the picture looks better than the real thing,
I cut it with a  circle die because I couldn't get the edges right - hows that for honesty!!

I also just kept it to foliage on the trellis for a more masculine card rather than using flowers.
If I don't get a wiggle on and make something else my DH will be getting this for his birthday next week
- well he is king of the BBQ so it would  fit!

This is what I did....

New beginnings at Moving Long with the times this week

Good morning all

I'm here today for a new beginning - over at Moving Along at the Times - but also for myself as well!

I've been sorting out my rubber stamps of late and have been enjoying using them again instead of the digis that seem to get used more and more these days.
I have a huuuuge! collection of rubber stamps that sort of found their way to the back of the cupboard
so I've dusted them off and given them a promotion to the top drawer
- expect to see more!!

I've used a cute baby stamp from Lili of the Valley to make a baby card for our

New beginnings Challenge

This stamp is called Baby Blanket  and is available here
This is my favourite baby stamp I've used it so many times - I have 3 or 4 other baby stamps but for some reason I always go back to this one, I think because it can be for either a boy or a girl and I also tried to make this card the same - one size fits all lol!

Celebrate - anything!!

Good morning all

Well. all the decorations are down, its been a hard slog - but the chocolate is gone and I'm ready to face the year all over again.  I'm not sure how it came to be 2014 - but it definitely is.  I've got this week before I'm back to work (mainly to help Tom with his work for Uni- but one essay down and one almost done so almost there)

It's been a funny old Christmas and New year this one, my Mam and my parents in law all having some sort of health issues and the obligatory sickness bug in our house- just for good measure, its been a bit of a roller coaster all round.  my MIL is still in hospital recovering from having a pacemaker fitted and we have FIL to look after, but things are looking up and should be back to normal soon - phew!!

It's been lovely having a bit of a break - from crafting and everything else- over the holidays - with everything going on there's hardly been a minute in the day
 - but its nice to back to a bit of creativity again.

We've had a complete break from challenges over at Fab'n'Funky - but we've still been busy!
We have a DT call going on and already have some fabulous crafters queuing up to join us - but theres still time to get your application in if your interested.

Click on the link HERE - for more details of our DT CALL

its an easy one to kick off the New Year
