Inspiration post on colouring with Spectrum noir pens and pencils

Hi all

I'm here to share my inspiration post that I've created for the Digital Delights blog today and I'm showcasing a cute male image called

Tooltime Donald

 - great for all sorts of male occasions
check him out in the DD store HERE

Here is my finished card - but if you follow on below you'll see how the use of different medium can change the appearance of an image/project

Most of my cards are fairly simple in style, preferring to concentrate on the image - though I have been known to go mad with embellies occasionally - it's not my normal style

I coloured this image with Spectrum Noir pens and pencils.  Starting off by laying down basic colours
as follows

skin - FS1,3,4,7
shirt - BT1,2,3
Boots and tool handles - TN5
Tools BG1,2
Dungarees, hat,glasses - TN1,2,4

I then added spectrum noir pencil in just one shade (116) ready to blend with blending fluid and blending stumps - you can see the lines around the edges here ready to blend towards the centre of the image

I then blended the pencil and added and blended in other pencil colours to the image to add more shade and depth, I also used pencil strokes to give him a salt'n'pepper hair colour!

pencil colours 120(black) for overall shading,
shirt - 52, 62, 120
cheeks - 26
dungarees,hat and tools 94,109,115,116
boots - 120

This more or less finishes the colouring of the image and gives a fairly clean look, however I wanted a more distressed look so added further shading from the outside edges of the card with Tim Holtz distress in in the shade distressed corduroy using an ink duster brush for a light coverage, this has the effect of toning down the whole image taking away the stark whiteness and also highlighting the stitched effect die.  I also created shade around the image with pencils 116 and 62.  This is not the usual appearance created with cuter images such as Digital Delights, but I wanted to show that cute does not mean you can't create a vintage type/distressed look as well

and so back full circle to the beginning!
I mounted the image onto Crafter's Companion Kraft card and black card and used a couple of papers from MME for background.  'DAD' was cut twice and offset to create a highlight with the alphabet die from the spellbinders sapphire die cutting machine - just love my new baby - so useful and very portable for crafting away from my craft room - infact lots of dies that you use when creating embellies on a project will fit - I'm so glad I got it.

I enjoyed creating this project
- I hope you like my take on it and that I have given you a different 'take' on cute!!

Do You have any January Blues? - colouring denim could be the answer

Good morning all

If you have January Blues I have just the place for you!

We have a new challenge at

and the theme is

Blues

Here's my DT card for your inspiration
using the image Casual Boy available HERE

I love colouring this type of boy image - when I first learned how to colour with pens and pencils it was denim blue that I first mastered, it still amazes me today how a grey pencil can transform some reasonable blue colouring into something that looks like denim jeans!

As always we have a fab prize on offer this week at TPS

http://www.thepapershelter.com/

This is what I did

Image - Casualboy from TPS
Coloured with Spectrum Noir pens and pencils
Papers - Father knows best from LOTV
Kraft card - Crafters companion
Pierced dies - Pierced noble squares and rectangles from Sue Wilson at Creative Expressions
Corner dies - MFT
Happy birthday die - Tatterred lace

Of course it doesn't have to be a boy card that you create - it could be a pretty blue floral, or anything else - as long as it is a predominantly blue card.  i look forward to seeing what you create

Challenges i'm entering with this card

The Male room - anything goes 19/1
cardz 4 guyz- happy birthday 18/1
digi chooseday - cool blues 26/1

It's really just as well that anything goes today!!

Good morning all

Well, today is anything goes day - and it's obvious because I slept in!!
it's something I haven't done for aaaages!
Never mind it's Saturday which is good, but when I sleep in I always feel as if someone's stolen a bit of the day from me!!

Today's challenge at

Wag's'n'Whiskers

is
Anything Goes

Here's my card using the pretty

Fairy Angelica

I used the papers as colour inspiration for this one - so not colours I would have naturally chosen for a fairy.  But I like the finished result- almost Christmas colours,
I think my brain is still a bit stuck in the festive season!!

It also has a lot of subtle sparkle in real life but you can't really see it here - I used Spectrum noir  Sparkle pens to add a real fairy shimmer to this one -every fairy needs sparkle!

Here's what I did

Image - Fairy Angelica fromWags'n'Whiskers
Papers - vintage floral from Coture designs
Coloured with Spectrum noir pens and Spectrum noir Sparkle pens
Card -Cordinations from Crafters Companion
Flowers - lillies from WOC
Butterfly dies - Diesire from Crafters Companion
Oval dies - Sue Wilson for Creative expression (can't remember the collection!)
Also Chloe stem die from Memory box as a leafy effect

Hope you'll come and join us this week at Wags and Whiskers Challenge - after all anything goes!

It's a spotty dotty day at MAWTT

Good morning all

Hands up who's seen the sun this year - not me lol.  This has to be the wettest most miserable, grey start to any year ever!! - and it's getting colder too.

We had a lovely start to the year with a New Years Day wedding- the daughter of our very best friends.  But even that was  a grey and miserable day, I got hardly any photographs and not a single decent one of me (nothing new there!!) - it was just so dark that my black dress looked like a v neck jumper and my flouncy facinator/hat was like a shadow on my head!! - Still it was a lovely day and a very happy way to start off the year

It's also time to kick off the new year at

Moving Along with the Times

and our first challenge of the year is an easy one

Spots and Dots

My card is one that I made at Christmas
- in my last minute rush to finish my Christmas cards
it's a large 8 x8 inch card

Here's what I did...

Papers Dovecraft Christmas papers

We'd love you to play along with us this week at MAWTT - hope to see you there

Happy New Year - and something else New!

Happy New Year everyone

Well I finally kicked myself into gear and here's my first post of the year

I'm setting myself off on a new blogging start for the year
-after a pretty disastrous end of last year
the only thing I can say is I had a great holiday in November
and Christmas and New Year were pretty good too

So - line drawn under 2015
and a happy 2016 is here!!

We have a "New" challenge at

Fab'n'Funky Challenges

the theme is

Something New
(new house, new baby, using new stash etc)

My card is a wedding card that my daughter asked me to make for a friend last summer
the theme of the wedding was sunflowers

I think you could even say a wedding fits the new theme - it is after all a start of a new life together
but as well as that I used some new dies

Absolutely brand new are the Dies from Sue Wilson
They're the ornate pierced rectangles from the Noble Collection
I just love this collection

I also decorated the inside to match

I don't know if these photographs do this card justice, it was quite a large card and the layering looked really effective with the black and yellow and it was also  really quite easy to make -

Our fabulous sponsor this week is

Live and Love Crafts

who are providing a £10 voucher for our prize winner

Live & Love Craft

What I did...
The whole list of items used

Dies - Ornate pierced dies Sue Wilson Noble die collection
Sunflower dies - MFT
Black Card - Crafter's Companion
Yellow cards - Cor'dnations from Crafters Companion

I do hope you'll join in with us at Fab'n'Funky this week to get the 'New' year off to a flying start
