A cautionary tale - don't drink and blog, and Moving Along with the Times Challenge

Hi all

I was determined to get here with this post today after the week I've had!!
I've been back from my Florida holiday for a week now and it's been more than bit of a topsy turvey one (again!).  At the risk of becoming a blogging moaning Minnie I've had one heck of a week - all due  to jet lag and a cup of tea!! - I warn you this is very long winded - but I need to offload and you really need to learn from my mistakes!!

This time of year is just so busy - we all have so many things to do, shopping, buying and wrapping gifts, decking the halls and Christmas trees - then there's real life.  I came back after 3 weeks away with all my Christmas shopping done, my on line food shop done ready for Christmas delivery by Tesco's (!) , mostly all my cards made before I went away and I had even been up to date with my blogging posts - but I was a bit jet lagged and had 3 weeks of mail to wade through and my Christmas tree and decorations to put up!

That was when disaster struck - I sat down to post my DT post for Craft Little Fairies - then it was off to bed for me.  Only thing was I just drifted asleep with my laptop on my lap and cup of tea in hand - and totally drowned.my laptop - I woke up very quickly - laptop, me the sofa and the dog were soaked, I tipped up the laptop and the tea just ran through it and I quickly plugged in my external hard drive to back it up while it was still alive - that worked but through that night sadly my laptop died of drowning!!!

I'm sure you'll all sympathise - in these technological days - not to mention my blogging, photos and half my life on this laptop, I keep other records- spreadsheets from 2 small businesses - it really was the end of the world lol. My DH was surprisingly understanding and sympathetic and after some blaming and why did you's he did go out and buy me a new one (lovely man!) but it wasn't a happy ever after!!

Setting up a new computer is no small task and I really didn't have the time but decided to do it in small stages over a couple of days.  That's when the second disaster struck.  I was working my way through which was even more complicated by it having windows 8 that I couldn't make head nor tail of - but I plodded on.  It had a pre installed trial antivirus program and I needed to remove that and install my own program from the online site - so far so good.  I went online to do that and while my lovely new laptop was antivirus programless it was attacked by 2 Trojan viruses that totally disabled the system, if you heard some shouting and pulling of hair accompanied by steam from ears - that was me, I just couldn't believe what had happened and couldn't  remove it no matter how I tried.  The only solution was to take it to a local geek shop for them to sort it out for me - so off I went next morning with my new laptop of 2 days to have it  wiped to start again - and that's where I'm at - now the cost of a new laptop + £35 to sort out the viruses, it's been an expensive week.  But it is now partly set up - complete with the antivirus program and so many things missing - I think it will take me weeks to get back to normal.

But here I am - it was it a bit of a tauma posting this post - couldn't find the photo's I uploaded, had to install my art programme, can't find my watermark to use so did some silly typing on the photo just to be sure - the moral of this story - don't drink and blog and don't catch any viruses
Sooo after much trouble here's my DT card for this weeks challenge at

Moving along with the Times

The theme is

December Birthday Cards

Not a great photo - but I always find easel cards hard to photograph.  This is a card I made for my grandson Jacob - he will be 3 years old on Saturday.  He has two obsessions, ten pin bowling and grabber machines!! - to you and me that's one of those arcade machine where you try to pick up a prize in a claw.  Believe it or not he's going to get  a toy one for Christmas and it's absolutely the only thing he want's - and Santa definitely knows!!

As far as bowling goes - he had a set of plastic skittles and bowls - though he loves to go to the bowling alley too - he puts his two hands on either side of your face looks deep into your eves and says - it's bowlin' time Man- ma (his word for Grandma) - just so funny and off we go to set up the skittles to bowl ha ha

Anyway if you're still with me - very well done and

This is what I did...

Papers - Candles and cake - LOTV (I see it's just been discontinued)
Sentiment and 3 - created in word
lots of dies - Spellbinders circles, MFT Blueprints 14,
tattered lace washing line happy birthday,
                      sizzix easy peasy alphabet
Ribbon from my stash

I do hope you'll join us at MAWTT this week - and forgive me for not visiting - I've been busy this week lol!

Challenges I'm entering with this card

Southern girls - celebration
Creative card crew - happy birthday

Holly and or Ivy for crafty litle Fairies very last challenge : (

Hi all

Well here I am back home back from my lovely nearly three weeks in  Florida and I almost got all my blogging right and scheduled - well except this one!  I actually came back yesterday and should have scheduled this one too - but for some reason I forgot!! - I just realised that I hadn't done my post tonight so here it is!!

I'm very sad to be doing this post as its the very last one for

Crafty Little Fairies

not just for me but for the whole challenge
December 2014 challenge is our last challenge : (

and our theme is

Holly and /or Ivy

I'm sure almost everyone will think - Christmas
but nope - not me - I thought - 90th Birthday card!!

My friend asked me to make a card for an aunt who was 90 last month
and as she likes to have a glass of wine - that should be the theme

Whenever I get asked to make a particular theme of card I always have a look at Justinklined stamps for inspiration  and I have to say they haven't ever let me down.  I thought this digi was just perfect and as it was 'a shelf' I decided that it would work well as an easel card.  The pub blackboard looked a bit bare at the top so I decided to trim it with ivy - and there you have my not Christmas card that fits the theme!  I don't know if you can see from the picture but the image is decoupaged with several layers at the shelf - and that's where I think it's not quite right once it was all finished I realised that I should have shaded the glasses to reflect the blackboard behind but hadn't spotted it until it was all layered up because the glasses were coloured separately and layered on.  I gave them a good coat of glossy accents so they look very 'glass'  - but hey ho I can't meet my own perfection all the time! - I would have redone the glasses but I hadn't saved the size and I knew I'd never get the glasses the right size to be able to substitute them.
There's also a little pocket underneath with a verse on a label with a little pull out ribbon (you can just see it peeking out of the side) - and a lovely box -but neither saw the camera I'm afraid!! - I think I was in total holiday mode at this point and completely forgot!!

This is what I did...

Image -All the Best Chalkboard from Justinklined available here
Colored with copics and prismacolor pencils
Age is just a number sentiment - created in word
Die cuts - Circle and mount for sentiment - spellbinders
                 Ivy - Marianne dies

I hope you'll join in with us for our very last challenge to help us to bow out with a bang!!
hugs

Join in with our birthday celebration blog hop at The Paper Shelter

Good Morning all

Well another year has gone by and The Paper Shelter Blog will be celebrating their 4th Birthday on December 8th. We are having a blog hop this week and it will also be a two week Challenge and both Design Teams are taking part.

The theme is

  "A Special Celebration"

Which I think could be almost anything !!

If you have landed here from Anna's then you're heading in the right direction - if not then the best thig to do is to go back to The Paper Shelter Challenge Blog to start again
, - after all you don't want to miss anthing!

Our Design Team have worked very hard and are showcasing the gorgeous images available at The Paper Shelter Website and each blog on the hop is offering one lucky commenter a digi of their choice as well as the main prize, details of which are on

At this time of year there was no doubt in my mind as to what my
special celebration would be

after all it is the most wonderful time of the year!!

This cute image is called
The Most Adorable Snowmen  - available here

As well as all of the fabulous digis available to colour at The Paper Shelter, we also have pre-coloured images and matching papers and that is what I used here.  It makes a really quick and easy card but you can add your own embellies to make it that little bit different.  I needed to make a really quick card as I was trying to fit all of my cards in before I went on holiday so that I could get my post scheduled.  I'll actually be travelling back home today after 2 lovely weeks in the sunshine in Florida, so this is the last of them!

All I used to make this easy peasy card was the precoloured image and paper, some gold satin ribbon and two different  dies from whimsy stamps - oh and a preprinted sentiment from Craftwork Cards.  The lovely gold card is old gold centura pearl from Crafters Companion, its a very different gold to the shiny mirricard - very pearly and elegant - perfect for a special celebration!!  I rather liked how it turned out - and Ihope it gives you some inspiration to use some of our lovely precoloured images for quick and easy (last minute!!) Christmas cards.

Well I think you've been here long enough! - you really need to be getting on with this hop.  The next blog you need to visit is Mariannes the link is here! - but don't forget to leave me a comment to be in with the chance of winning the prize for this blog.

Hope you are enjoying our celebration hop

Good luck
