Boo! - are you too cute to spook - or very grown up Halloween?

Good morning all

Well the day is finally here - well that's what my grandson Jacob thinks anyway.  He's six years old and is totally taken up with the idea of Halloween, dressing up and face painting, trick or treat and everything else that goes with it.  He's had a fun week going to a National Trust Halloween night at the weekend, Apple ducking at Beavers on Monday night and finally..... the big day has arrived lol
My daughter rang me last night because he was so excited to come round to visit tomorrow after school because I told him I might have a special treat (or trick!) for him and his sister.  She was just making sure that I knew about this - to avoid disappointment lol.

Things certainly seem to have gone up a gear in the Halloween celebrations round here,  I passed a full blown graveyard in someones garden when I was walking the dog - really fun and obviously lots of work had gone into it, the painted gravestones with funny verses, bones in a wheelbarrow too!

Anyways ...... our challenge theme this week at

and our theme is

Halloween

and as expected by Jacob I  made a treat bag!

This one is much more 'grown up' than the one I made for his sister Eva - after all she is only 2!!  I used papers to decorate it from a very old pad from from MME - I hope he'll be impressed at how grown up and scary it is! - and filled with treats of course!!  I always put their names on things I make - I think kids love to see their name on a card or box, they like the idea that it's made just for them : )

This is what I did...

Box made from a peice of orange card on my scoreboard
Papers - My Minds Eye - Wicked Merchant Malvado
Label dies - Dienamics
Skeleton 'parts' - Sheena Douglass  day of the dead die
Alphabet dies - Fashion Dies from Crafters Companion
Black twine and sticker spider from my stash
velcro sticky fastener to secure the flap

Hope you'll join in with our challenge this week - can't wait to see what you make!

Challenges I've entered with this card

Disdigis -Creepy or cute 3/11
Digichoosday - anything goes 6/11
Asyoulikeit - favourite autumnal or Halloween colours - orange and black!

Something for the man in your life!

Good morning all

Some love them - some hate them
noooo not the man in your life lol

 Cards for men!

I have to say I quite like making 'man' cards they're a differnt sort of challenge - you have to get in touch with your masculine side and I always find that making a card that relates to the man in question makes it an altogether easier job!

So with that in mind we have a new challenge over at

our theme is

For a Man

Here's the card I made

I made this card for a sixties loving man of a certain age!
someone who loves music, The Beatles,
a sort of groovy baby card -if you know what I mean!!

This is what I did....

Stencil and flower and record/ record player stamps- Sheena Douglass' swinging 60's range
Assorted word and number dies to create the wording
TH distress inks
Black card - Crafter's Companion
white card - Sheena Stamping card

I love getting messy with inks to create backgrounds, I've been having some fun with my art journal lately doing just that - not quite finished but I'll be back to share soon!

Hope you'll play along with us at MAWTT this week

One card a week for Christmas - that's the aim!

Hi all

Is it to early to talk about Christmas lol
I can see you rolling your eyes and hear the groans already he he

But for anyone who wants to send handmade  Christmas cards - now is the time to start.
I always have good intentions at the beginning of the year - and mostly I don't do too badly - but I always wish I'd made more when December comes around

So in an attempt to put in even more effort I joined a facebook page where the aim is to make 52 cards in the year.  (We'll not mention the fact that I'm already a week behind lol)

So here's my first card.  I actually made a couple like this one last Christmas.  When I went to Florida last November I took my pencils and coloured a few images as i sat by the pool - this one I coloured  three times.  Two of them got made into cards and this one was 'saved' for this year and has got me off to a start for the year

This cute, pretty image is from Sheena Douglass at Crafter's Companion- it's very easy to colour because it has a lot of shading on the stamp to guide you, the sentiment also came with the stamp.

I stamped onto Canson watercolour paper (my favourite for watercolours - it has such a fabulous texture)  Then coloured with Spectrum Noir Colourtint watercolour pencils - all except for the red which is a Derwent Inktense pencil (there isn't a bright red in the Colourtints)  I love the Colourtints they're such lovely muted shades.

This is what I did .....

Image and sentiment - Dashing Deer from Sheena Douglass a little bit festive
Coloured with Spectrum noir colourtint pencils
red pencil - Derwent inktense
Paper - Canson watercolour paperCard and ribbon from my stash

I hope I've inspired you to get going on next years Christmas cards

Why do I never win at Bingo!!...... I'll explain

Good morning all

We have a new challenge starting at

Fab'n'Funky Challenges

our lovely Buffy Chose the theme

Bingo

and we have a new sponsor this year

DigiStamps4joy

who are offering a great prize this week

I never win at Bingo!! - mainly I think because I loose the plot and my mind wanders off and I miss numbers .... pretty much like in this challenge really.  Not a very good example to anyone who plays along with our challenge - you won't win if like me you only complete half a line!! Yellow/flowers/gems, then I've sort of got black off another line .... see what I mean I'm pretty useless lol.   To be fair it's easily put right I could stick gems on no problem - so if you can screw your eyes up and stick black gems on in your mind - it fits!

I decided that this lovely image was perfect to create a page in my art journal - it's only one side of a double page - I've yet to venture onto the facing page - but I have something floral in mind!!

This lovely image is called Phantasi 7 - I just love it!!

I used parts of the Doodlin' stencil from Sheena Douglass groovin 60's collection as I thought the shapes echoed the lovely cala lilys in her hair and also added an ornate vine and basket weave stencil for texture - I rather like the effect.
Here's what I did

Image - Phantasi 7 from Digistamps4joy
coloured with Spectrum noir blendable pencils
Background created with Sheena Douglass stencils and  inspirational words stamps sets 1 and 2
and splats and accessories set 2
Inks used - Creative expressions colourcloud and TH distress inks, stazon black ink

Hope we see you with a winning line overat Fab'n'Funky this week

both coloured in Spectum Noir Colourblend pencils - I love the soft effect of the pencils
the backgrounds are TH distress inks through the stencils
stencils used - Groovy Flower Power available HERE
Tie dye - available HERE
Circles of my mind available HERE

this is the lovely Hattie available HERE

and Groovy available HERE

Hands up! - are you this crafty person lol

Hi all

I'm here to share my make do and mend/last minute panic/ card for the family member, card lol!

So come on lets take a hand count do you do any of these things

  • Make all kinds of things for no paricular reason
  • Mess on with no purpose at all with crafty stuff
  • Churn out DT cards apleanty
  • .... then find you didn't make a card for your husband/daughter/mother
  • - and its their birthday tomorrow ... EEEK!!

I have to admit that's me - usually
However with this particular card (I thought smugly ) I was very well prepared
Well it was the day before my husbands birthday and iI still hadn't made the card, but I had planned it, saw the perfect thing - just him to a T - it was the Sheena Douglass 'groovin' 60's collection.  my husband is a huge Beatles fan and grew up in the 60's so I could see great posabilities with these stamps. - so i went shopping at the Crafter's companion shop and a few sale items dropped into my basket too!

And here's the card - can you spot the deliberate mistake - perhaps not - dont those flower stamps and record player look fab lol

and that's where disaster struck!! - The day before his birthday I had a real fun time making the background with the tie dye and circle stencils and my distress inks, I stenciled the 'mod' from the mod stencil then I went to stamp the record player stamp and the flowers on the 60'd girl stamp.  - and there was the problem - I had had such fun looking through the sale pages on the website - I forgot to buy the stamps - EEEK.  Sothere was my card base with nothing to put on it.  I had a major panic - couldn't find a thing that would do instead but cut out the happy birthday banner, numbers and hearts to fill the space up but it just looked rubbish.  Then I looked at the cardboard packaging from the stencils and there were the flowers  the 45RPM and record player pictured on the front, so I cut them out - straight from the packaging - hey presto there was my card complete - Phew!!!

So use this as a cautionary tale - no more last minute cards : )
so let me start the hand count ... who's guilty lol

1,2,3,4.........hehehe

Good morning all

We're up and running again over at

We found out that our lovely DT leader Eileen (Stars cards) is very poorly in hospital at the moment and we've been cast a drift a bit , firstly because we didn't know where she was , then we didn't know what to do without her!  In the meantime Helen has taken over temporarily and we are running the challenge without our sponsors at the moment as we're not really sure about things!!

#2017 - Happy Saturday! - happy planning with my crafty Happy Planner!!

Good morning all

I hope you're all warm and well this wintery Saturday morning
(well it's wintery in my corner of the world!)
We had a small amount of snow that only lasted yesterday
and I live only about a mile from the sea where there have been some spectacular tides crashing up
thankfully not doing any damage - but a wonderful display of nature

I't's been a busy week craft wise has this one!!
If you pop over to Fab'n'Funky Challenges you'll see we have some lovely new teamies.
Running a DT takes a lot of work sometimes and this was one of those weeks!
But I've got everyone up and ready on the blog and our new sponsors sorted for the year
(well except one closed before the year started so  - we're on the lookout for someone to cover a couple of weeks! - - any offers or ideas lol
I've also been busying away with my new crafty goodies for the year
continuing with my 'crafting for a purpose' theme
and here's the beginning of the beginning - so to speak!

I got myself a lovely 365 Happy Planner (the craft version!)
and aim to use it!!

I started off colouring the cover, using my Clouristapens from Crafter's Companion
- they're great for this type of colouring if you've never tried them

I loved how it turned out but it wasn't really what I wanted
- it's a bit too .....nice ha ha

so I had a lovely couple of messy days and made some covers of my own design
and this is the one I chose to go with

Still quite flowery but in a messy sort of way
and it says something about me and what I'm aiming to do with it
- not your bog standard planner cover

I used Sheena Stamping card and coloured it with my Ranger Dylusions paints in bubblegum pink, crushed grape, fresh lime and cherry pie - just sort of slapped it on with a baby wipe - it blends beautifully, I then stamped and painted in the details and dotted about a bit with the handle end of the brush - I loved the messyness of it! - a bit scary but very satisfying

The flowers are Sheena Douglass Day of the Dead Floral Fiesta
and I then layered up using the coordinating dies
- these Perfect Partner dies really are perfect!!
I didn't want it too dimensional or 'big' because I wanted it to fit inside the plastic cover. After all if it's going to get regular use it needs to be hard wearing lol

After that I added just a few odds and ends, buttons, brads, beads and a key
and finally added the inspiring words which are again stamps from Sheena Douglass
I just stamped them very simply, cut them by hand and stuck them on  in a random way
and in the top corner die cut   -   #2017   - and that's what it's all about!!

I've started to decorate my pages as I go - I've even written i it lol
I'll keep you updated as I go
.... I think this will be fun

The flowery colouring didn't go to waste, I liked it to  much!
- I've used it on the inside cover, which is still a work in progress

 - I'll show you the back another time!!

Why don't you join me - you don't need to buy a fancy planner, it could be done with any reasonabley sized diary - and they'll be reduced in price  by now as the shops scramble to get rid of them before the end of January

Happy Saturday, Happy planning

Just us girls- all over stamping 20/1

Another gorgeous fairy from Flights of Fantasy - meet Darcy

Good morning all

I'm back with my next fairy from Morgan Fitzsimons Flights of Fantasy collection
Yet another birthday card - this time for a special friend
(it feels like all my friends and relations were born in March!!)

This lovely fairy is called Darcy

I wanted to create a mono type image with just a burst of colour in the flowers, which I think are morning glory, they are usually blue or shades in that spectrum, I decided to colour her with my Spectrum Noir alcohol pens.  Whenever I see images coloured in this way with a pop of colour it's nearly always with red, so I thought the blue would make a good contrast and that I'd be able to blend it in with the greys that I coloured the image with.  I did this by transferring the blue directly onto the grey pen tip to keep it subtly blended on the image. I then added some sparkle - because a fairy simply has to have some! - with Spectrum Noir Sparkle pens
The background was created by embossing  navy textured cored'nations card then sanding back and embellishing with gilding wax.  The black frames were also embellished with the silver gilding wax
 - I just love this stuff!!

This is what I did....

Image - Darcy from Flights of Fantasy by Morgan Fitzsimons from Crafter's Companion
Coloured with Spectrum Noir alcohol pens -colours IG1, IG2,IG4, TB4, TB9
Sparkle pens - colours silver, starry sky and clear
Flower and leaf die - Sheena Douglass Perfect Partners Country Cottage Plain Honesty
Embossing folder - Embossalicious flutterby butterfly folder
Silver pebeo gilding wax
Sue wilson pierced noble dies and frames
Sentiment - LOTV
Ribbons from my stash
Matt black card - Crafter's Companion
Navy Core'dnations card - Crafters Companion
Silver detail embossing powder(on sentiment) creative expressions

Hope you like her as much as I do - I'm not sure that the full effect comes across in the photograph, but i really loved it when I finished - one of those cards for someone els - that you really want to keep for your self!!

Challenges i am entering with this challenge

Chocolate baroque - colour challenge 20/04
glitter and sparkle challenge - use a die/punch  10/04
